emen and eight African countries which participated in the International Conference on Maritime Piracy signed at the end of the conference works a code of conduct on combating sea piracy in the western region of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden off the Somali shores. The code includes mechanisms of coordination among the overlooking countries on west of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea to fight sea piracy offshore Somalia as well as security measures to protect ships and coordination to exchange information and help among those countries. Minister of Transport Khalid al-Wazir told Saba that the countries which signed the code are Yemen, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Seychelles, Somalia, Madagascar, Kenya and Maldives while the other countries which took part in the conference, 21 counties, will sign the code in the coming period, noting that the code of conduct comes into force once two countries sign it. The minister revealed that one of the code items is to establish a regional maritime center to exchange information on piracy fighting to be established in Sana'a in addition to establishing two other centers in Kenya and Tanzania and each countries should establish a national communication and coordination body to cooperate with the other regional centers. He said that the conference, organized the International Maritime Organization and held during 26-29 January in Djibouti, adopted a decision on technical cooperation and aid in order to ensure that the participating countries get this kind of support for training and qualification. Worth mentioning that Yemen has already started works on the establishment of the regional maritime center.
