Yemen, UNDP sign 7 funding agreements worth over $ 17.9 mln

Yemen and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed on Thursday seven financing agreements worth more than $ 17.9 million. Under the first five agreements, which were signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Mohammed al-Sa'adi and the UN resident coordinator in Yemen Paolo Lembo, the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) shall provide a funding support worth $ 12 million dedicated for improving the humanitarian situation and social development in areas that have experienced armed conflicts and supporting the transitional justice in Yemen. They also provided for supporting the capabilities of the Yemeni non-governmental organizations working in the affected communities.
The sixth agreement stipulated that the UNDP in Yemen and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) shall provide a funding support of $ 952,000 to support the capabilities of the Yemeni government in facing the implications of climate changes and preparing the first report on these changes.
Under the seventh agreement, the UNDP will provide ,in collaboration with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and PBF, a financing support worth $ 986,000 to support the capacity building of non-governmental organizations to contribute to providing assistance to needy population groups in rural and urban areas.
Following the signing ceremony, Dr. al-Sa'adi praised the contributions of the UNDP and PBF in supporting the Yemeni government's efforts aiming to promote the development paths and stability in Yemen.
For his part, Mr. Lembo confirmed the UNDP's keenness to continue to provide the developmental support to Yemen, noting that the finance provided for the seven projects falls under this frame.
