Ten al-Qaeda terrorists stand trial in Sana'a

The Specialized Penal Court in the capital Sana'a started Sunday the trial of ten al-Qaeda militants, including a Syrian national, accused of partaking in an armed gang to carry out criminal acts. At the hearings presided over by Judge Muhsen Alwan, the court listened to the indictment presented by the prosecution against the defendants.
The indictment explained that the ten accused involved in an armed gang during 2005-2010 to commit criminal acts targeting military, security and government leaders ,diplomats and foreign companies in Yemen, as well as to loot funds in order to harm the homeland security and stability and destabilize the public order.
The accused had prepared means for that, including weapons, explosives, explosive devices, wireless communications devices, publications, websites, rental houses, military uniforms, women's clothes, and identification documents with false names, the indictment indicated.The prosecution noted that the defendants have monitored a number of foreign facilities and local and foreign dignitaries.The first and second defendants caused an explosion at the headquarters of Canadian Nexen Company in Hada area causing many damage in the building, the prosecution said.Whereas the third and fourth defendants attacked Al-Saifi Company in Hodeidah province and looted a sum of YR 680,000 and kidnapped Mohammed al-Saffi and Mohammed al-Kahili and held them for 21 days, in addition to the third accused forged official documents (ID cards) and put his own photo over them, the prosecution added.
In light of that, the court decided to continue its hearings on Monday to enable the prosecution to submit its evidence regarding the first and second defendants.
