The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (SCMC) approved on Wednesday in its meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Ali Mujawar, its annual plan for 2011.
The plan aims to enhance the Council's role towards the issues of motherhood and childhood, particularly in the follow-up of national strategies and plans, and promote institutional and legislative frames to protect children and provide information about the problems of children. In addition, the plan aims to intensify the awareness process on the issues of motherhood and childhood through various means and strengthen partnership with the bodies concerned with children, whether governmental or civil society organizations or international organizations as well as capacity-building of workers in the early childhood field. The Council valued trends and activities included in the plan, pointing to the importance of private sector's contribution to support and advocate the motherhood and childhood issues. Moreover, the Council discussed a draft plan of the national strategy for early childhood development, and directed to refer it to the Cabinet for discussion and taking the necessary action.The strategy seeks to achieve a number of goals including advocating and promoting the legislations of early childhood and the database and information in this aspect.The Council also discussed the draft national plan to combat the phenomenon of street children and the daft national plan for combating violence against children for 2011-2013, submitted by the Technical Secretariat of the SCMC.The Council directed to integrate them in one plane and refer it to the Cabinet for discussion and taking the necessary decisions.The plan aims to strengthening the institutional and legal procedures that lead to prohibit all forms of violence against children in the existing legislations as well as promoting social economic security to them.Furthermore, the Council ratified a plan for implementing recommendations of the International Commission for the Rights of Child on countering acts of selling or exploiting children in pornographic performances and materials.
