The Ministry of Fisheries Has announced the closure of catching shrimp season in the Red Sea area and the shores of the Republic of Yemen, starting tomorrow, Sunday, May 18, until further notice. The decision of the ministry today,obliged all fishermen working in the area of catching shrimp in the areas mentioned to abide by its provisions according to the specified period. The Minister of Fisheries, Engineer Ibrahim Mahmoud Saghiri mentioned to the Yemeni news agency (Sabaa) that the resolution aimed at protecting Shrimp stocks in the Red Sea and preserve the breeding process where this period is considered the longest periods of breeding for these organisms where the lay their eggs. The Minister of Fisheries also called the offices of the Ministry of Fisheries in the coastal provinces and districts in the Red Sea to monitor the fishermen who engaged in the activity of this kind of fish to determine the extent of their commitment to the resolution. Mr SAghiri said "There are more than 15 local and foreign companies in the process of exporting different types of fish from the province of Hodeida, where the most important is Shrimp where it is exported to European countries and South East Asia and Middle East countries." Yemeni Shores are characterized by hot weather throughout the year, representing a fertile environment for cultivating shrimp. The results of the survey carried out by the Marine Sciences Research Center showed the appropriateness of 15 locations in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden for shrimp farming, where the Red Sea Area includes Alehiah Region. The coastal shrimpis classified as one of the most famous and best types of crustaceans in Yemen, he has taste and a distinctive taste and color that attracts consumers in the east and west, both because of the nature of the components of the marine environment and it lives in. The Red and the Arab Seas are considered one of the most important congregating areas for shrimps, where it is caught by traditional means of fishing and coastal fishing boats. It is noteworthy that the quantity of shrimp exports reached during the first quarter of this year 97 tons valued at eight million and 308 thousand dollars. The coastline of Yemen on the Red and Arab Seas extends to more than 2600 kilometers to the borders of the Sultanate of Oman south and west to Saudi Arabia where it owns more than 350 to 400 species of fish and marine life which are scarce and highly-valued in overseas markets and such as tuna and squid and Lobster and prawns .
