The Governor of Hadhramaut, Mr. Mabkhot Mubarak bin Madi, reviewed UNESCO's interventions in the rehabilitation and restoration of historical monuments in the governorate. The meeting was attended by several officials from the Douan Foundation for Architecture and the Hadhramaut Foundation for Culture.
This came during his meeting today with UNESCO Project Manager Nuno Oliveira, who presented a report on implemented and planned projects in Hadhramaut. These include the restoration of 176 houses in the historic city of Shibam, the opening of three cultural centers in the governorate, and the development of an early warning system.
The governor also plans to rehabilitate the Sultan Al-Quaiti Palace in Mukalla and the Sultan Al-Kathiri Palace in Seiyun, along with a number of other historical monuments. The interventions also include projects related to traditional water management and support for arts, culture, and creativity projects. The Governor of Hadhramaut praised UNESCO's efforts to preserve heritage and history, recommending that the organization complete the procedures for incorporating the city of Al-Hijrain into the World Heritage List. He emphasized that the selection of the Douan Architecture and Hadhramaut Cultural Foundations as partners is a successful step, given their expertise in urban, cultural, and artistic fields. This will contribute to achieving positive results in the coming period.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Finance Office in the Hadhramaut Coast, Mr. Anwar Al-Jaidi; the Executive Director of the Douan Architecture Foundation, Dr. Abdullah Baghmian; and the Advisor to the Board of Founders and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Hadhramaut Cultural Foundation, Dr. Abdul Qader Ba'isa, along with a number of officials and specialists from UNESCO and the Douan Architecture and Hadhramaut Cultural Foundations.
