Yemen's permanent representative to the Arab League (AL) ambassador Mohamed al-Heisami briefed on Wednesday the AL's Council on the political, security and economic developments in Yemen. In his speech at the Council's 142nd session held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League in Cairo, the ambassador said that Yemen is at a crossroads due to the escalation and erroneous practices in the capital Sana'a and the continuation of the armed crowds influx to the entrances and exits of the capital with a view to aggravate the political situation and exploit the poor economic conditions experienced by the country.
Al-Heisami pointed out that President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi is exerting unremitting efforts to end the recent escalation in order to safeguard the country from slipping into a spiral of violence and chaos.
In this regard, he noted that the state were keen to deal wisely with this issue and committed to a policy of restraint and sent a committee to negotiate with Abdulmalik al-Houthi.
The ambassador pointed out that the presidential national committee tasked to negotiate with al-Houthi proposed a national initiative to solve the current crisis, which was approved on Tuesday by a wide-range national assembly under the chairmanship of President Hadi.
The committee's initiative stipulates forming a national unity government, reconsidering the price of oil derivatives and implementing the National Dialogue Conference's recommendations, he added.
