Cabinet forms committee to address security and economic challenges

The Cabinet held on Thursday an extraordinary meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa and devoted to discuss the problem of the oil derivatives scarcity. In the meeting, the Cabinet formed a ministerial committee, consisting of Ministers of Defense, Interior, Planning and International Cooperation, Finance, Electricity, Oil and Minerals, Industry and Trade, Civil Service and Governor of the Central Bank, to take charge of developing urgent solutions to face the security imbalances and the economic challenges.
The Cabinet directed the concerned ministries and authorities to intensify their efforts to address the current bottlenecks in oil derivatives, stressing the importance of taking complementary actions to ensure the availability of the necessary quantities of them in the local market.
In its meeting, the cabinet dealt with the security situation and its challenges, including the systematic acts of sabotage that affect oil pipelines and electric power lines and their negative consequences for the security ,economic and social stability and living of citizens.
In this regard, the Cabinet appealed to the judiciary to quickly trigger lawsuits against the aggressors on electricity and oil.
On the President's directives, which came in his speech on the eve of the 24th National Day celebration, the Cabinet confirmed that the government would do its duty in implementing and would start developing executive and practical procedures to implement those directives on the ground.
The Cabinet affirmed that it would be in a continuous session to discuss all the issues and current problems facing the country.
