The Court of Public Funds in the capital convicted on Wednesday the Briton, Rajinder Singh Verdi, of smuggling Yemeni antiques.
The court ordered the convict to be deported from the country and to pay a fine of one million riyals to the State treasury and the attorney's fees for the General Authority of Antiquities, as well as handing the seized artefacts to the Antiquities Authority.
Verdi, who is working for an oil company in Yemen, was convicted by the court on charges of proceeding in smuggling 16 Yemeni artefacts dating back to the Stone Age.
The security services at Sana'a International Airport seized the accused while he was trying to smuggle the antiques in secret pockets in his bag on January 13.
