Anti-corruption actions in Yemen need societal, int'l participation

Head of the Supreme Judicial Council Dr. Ali Nasser Salim said on Wednesday that the current anti-corruption procedures in Yemen need societal and international participation During his meeting with the World Bank (WB)'s delegation, which is currently visiting Yemen, Dr. Salim pointed out that the judicial system in Yemen and the relevant anti-corruption legislations are largely consistent with the international trends and conventions against corruption.
He emphasized the need for a well thought out plans to review and develop the national laws to adapt them with the modern international conventions in the fight against corruption in all its forms.
Dr. Salim demanded more flexibility from the WB in dealing with the issues of the least developed countries, which need for supporting their economies in the first place, as well as supporting their judicial and security bodies that suffer the lack of potentials in combating corruption and terrorism resulting from poverty.
The WB's delegation reviewed the bank's action plan and the steps initiated by the bank within the framework of a general program to support the transition stages in the Arab countries.
The delegation expressed the readiness of the bank to respond to all suggestions and visions that will enhance the capabilities of Yemen, especially in the judicial aspects relating to criminal accountability in the corruption cases.
