United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon attended on Monday an extraordinary meeting of the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Basindwah.
The meeting was dedicated to review the achievements achieved by the government under the Gulf-brokered initiative as well as and its successes in many aspects despite all the contrived challenges and obstacles.
It also reviewed the government's future plans to be carried out during the 2nd phase of the transition according to the GCC initiative and international support needed to achieve these plans for reinforcing security, stability and the transition in Yemen and meeting the aspirations of the Yemeni people for change and progress.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that his government was determined to achieve its own tasks in the transition, recalling on the United Nations and the international community to strengthen their support to Yemen in the political, economic and development aspects at this critical stage.
He also required the international community to put more pressure and impose sanctions against those who are trying to hinder the process of change and the success of the transition.
For his part, the UN Secretary General praised the active role of the Yemeni government in the exceptional circumstances witnessed by Yemen and its successes which have been achieved.
He stressed the support of the UN and the international community to Yemen's political leadership, government and people, pointing out the importance of completing the implementation of the GCC initiative, particularly the restructuring of the army and security services and the success of the national dialogue.
Ban Ki-moon also pointed out that any attempt to disrupt the political transition in Yemen will face sanctions imposed on anyone obstructing the implementation of the Gulf initiative under the Security Council resolutions 2014 and 2051, stressing that the international community will not tolerate any obstruction to Yemen's transition.
