Cabinet approves setting up fund for Abyan reconstruction

The cabinet approved on Tuesday setting up a fund for reconstruction of Abyan province with YR10 billion as an initial contribution of the government in addition to donors and businessmen's donations.
This came in an extraordinary meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa in Aden governorate on the urgent needs of returning the Abyan displaced people to their homes and re-normalizing the general condition of the province.
The meeting reviewed a report of the Abyan's local authority on the priorities that require urgent intervention to address them and provide the reconstruction requirements.
It also directed the national committee to deal with mines to focus their efforts in the coming days on clearing all areas of Zinjibar, Khanfar and Lawder of mines and remnants of war, including the citizens' homes and government, public and private facilities.
Concerning the security situation, the cabinet ordered to rehabilitate the security bodies in the province, provide security mechanisms and equipment necessary for carrying the security tasks perfectly as well as setting up a strict security plan to protect the citizens and public and private properties. It also reviewed a number of reports on the exerted measures taken by the ministries to restore the basic services, particularly in electricity, water, health and telecommunication. On the other hand, the cabinet also addressed the security, development and service situations in Lahj province. It listened to a report of the local authority on issues and problems as well as the suggested solutions. It made several decisions aiming to back the local authority's efforts in improving the electricity, water and telecommunication services in the province.
