Gov't approves 5-year agriculture national strategy draft

The cabinet approved on Tuesday meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa a draft of agriculture national strategy 2012 – 2016.
The strategy focuses mainly on the farmers and the necessary requirements to improve production rates, raise economic returns, alleviate poverty and improve food security.
It includes a five-year executive plan, which identifies a comprehensive set of programs and interventions to help small farmers and commercial farms directly and assist in developing the government capacities to be able to provide useful services and information to farmers, in addition to the donors' ongoing and future programs in the agriculture and water sectors.
The strategy is intended to serve as a dynamic document can be continually edited or updated to be suitable for new challenges that may arise as a result of the climate change and resources availability, security situation and political stability, as well as for the new opportunities for the Yemeni agriculture products in domestic and overseas markets.
