UAE is Yemen's largest Arab trading partner in 2010, says Yemeni official

The UAE emerged as Yemen's largest trading partner among Arab countries in 2010 with YR 444.37 billion (US$2.07 billion) of exchange between the two countries. Yemen's imports from the UAE reached YR 357.35 billion in 2010 and exported YR 87.23 billion to the Gulf country in the same year, according to Basheer al-Qudsi, director general of trade statistics department at Yemen's Central Statistical Center. The UAE was followed by Saudi Arabia with YR 219 billion out of which YR 165.5 billion were imports and YR 53.59 billion in exports. The UAE and Saudi Arabia also emerged as the largest Arab importers of Yemeni goods which include fish, Squid, prawns, honey, coffee beans and fruits. In 2010, Yemen imports, which are led by foodstuff, electronics, furniture, textiles, equipment, spare parts from the two countries, increased YR 92.13 billion year-on-year to reach YR 734.17 billion.
