Gov't stresses universities should not involve in political conflicts

The Government stressed on Tuesday the sanctity of universities and not to be involved in the political struggles. In its weekly meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs Rashad al-Alimi, the government emphasized the prohibition of the entry of armed forces to the universities' campuses.The government's statements were made after reviewing a report of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the resumption of study in public universities for the second semester of the academic year 2010 – 2011.The government called on the students in all universities to keep on their academic study and to benefit from the remaining period of the second semester. It also urged the teaching staffs in the universities to carry out their national and functional responsibilities and perform their duties towards the students, who are the first victim of hindering the educational process.In this regard, the government also called on the Supreme Council of Universities to convene extraordinary meetings to discuss what is happening in universities and to take the required legal measures to ensure the continuation of the second semester.
