Caretaker Prime Minister Ali Mujawar confirmed on Sunday the government's absolute support for male and female workers in Yemen. Upon his attending a celebration on International Workers' Day, Mujawar confirmed that the government is seeking to ensure all rights for workers, including the rights to work in a safe working environment, compensation for injury at work and insurance, which guarantees the decent living for workers and their families in the case of retirement or injury leading to disability or death. In his speech, Mujawar praised the workers' role in the construction of modern Yemen , saying "We celebrate on this occasion ,whilst Yemen is witnessing exceptional and complex circumstances.""We are looking forward to all mediation efforts made by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)'s brotherly countries to resolve the political crisis in Yemen", he added, hoping that the opposition Joint Meeting Parties (JMPs) would deal wisely and logically with the GCC initiative. Mujawar stressed the importance of partnership between the trio of government, workers and employers in securing the elements of fair for male and female workers.
Yemen has ratified 30 international labor conventions relating to rights, union freedom, prohibition on forced labor, equality, justice and non-discrimination, and the minimum age for working children and their protection from employment risks, in addition to eight Arab labor conventions, Mujawar pointed out. "In 2009, a document of decent work was signed by Yemen under the auspices of the International Labour Organization", said Mujawar noting that Yemen is among three Arab countries implementing this program. He called on the private sector to provide all conditions and guarantees that ensure the right for workers to form union entities representing their interests on the basis of responsibility that ensure the balance between the workers' rights and employer's interests.
