Yemen seeks int'l support to face African refugees' burdens

Yemen has called on the international community and UNHCR to provide further financial support so as to enable it to meet the constant flow of refugees. This came in a speech by Deputy Foreign Minister in the Caretaker Government and Head of High National Committee for Refugees, Ali Muthanna, at the opening of a workshop on protection of refugees, which was held on Sunday in the capital Sana'a and organized by the UNHCR with support from Swiss government and in cooperation with the Yemeni government. Muthanna dealt with issues related to the refugees' problems and Yemen's suffering of the continued influx of refugees especially from the Horn of Africa, which reflected negatively on the economic and security situation in Yemen. He confirmed that the Yemeni government is striving to do its duties in providing the necessary and essential services for refugees both in urban areas and camps.For her part, the UNHCR's representative in Yemen Claire Bourgeois confirmed that there is a strong and constant cooperation between the UNHCR and Yemen in refugees affairs.She hoped that the international community would help Yemen in this aspect, explaining that the workshop aims to document all solutions for the problem of refugees put forth in the workshop
