Water Consumption and Water Production Total water consumption reached about 2,815 million cubic meters in 1996 and annual water consumption for 1996-1999 registered a growth of 1.8% and an absolute increase of 300 million cubic meters. Agriculture water consumption is estimated at 92% of total water resources being irrigated mainly by underground water. Household consumption is estimated at only 6% of total water consumption. 45% of urban households is connected to the national water network and the remaining percentage of households is supplied by the private sector. Water production by the National Water and Sanitation Authority increased during the same period. The annual increase reached 6.6% and production reached 94 million cubic meters in 1999 with an absolute increase of 20 million cubic meters compared to 1996
