Yemen will take part for the first time in the 10th forum of Gas Exporting countries set to be held on April 19 in the Algerian Wahran city.
Yemen joined the Gas Exporters Club last year when it launched its LNG Project in Balhaf, Shabwa.Minister for Oil and Minerals Amir al-Aidrous said that Yemen will familiarize with the Algerian experience and seek technical cooperation in the LNG field. On the sidelines of the meeting, Yemen will discuss with some countries aspects of cooperation in oil and gas areas, he said. The forum aims to discuss the best ways to strengthen cooperation among gas exporters and exchange expertise in the fields of gas exploration and transportation as well as establishing suitable frameworks for global gas markets. The 12-member forum was founded and other four members are on the way to it.In October 2009, Yemen inaugurated its $ 4.5-billion LNG plant, the biggest investment ever in its history, exporting the firs shipment of LNG to South Korea. On Thursday, Minister for Oil and Minerals Amir al-Aidrous affirmed that the second train of the Balhaf LNG Plant would be ready before the specified time.He also said that the ministry is handling an acute shortage of home gas, assuring the problem would be tackled by 2011 when further filters are installed at the plant.During a press conference after launching the 2010 scholarship program under the auspices of the Yemeni Liquefied Natural Gas, the minister rejected rumors that oil in Yemen would vanish by 2010, saying: I don't believe in such rumors which have surfaced many times but proved untrue. Yemen has been and will remain producing and exporting oil God willing, he said.
