Yemen to take part in 122nd IPU Assembly in Bangkok

Yemen is to take part in the 122nd assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union IPU that starts on Saturday in Thai capital, Bangkok.
A delegation led by Sultan al-Barakani is leaving the country today for the meeting that ends April 1st.The participation comes in reply to the invitation of head of the National Assembly of Thailand Chai Chidchob, President of the IPU Theo-Ben Gurirab and Secretary General of the IPU Anders B. Johnson, al-Barakani said.The meeting will discuss the global current political, economic and social situations as well as mutual cooperation and responsibilities in the fight against organized crime and trans-border terrorism, combating drugs and human trafficking and arms trade, he said. It will also deal with the role of Parliaments in improving cooperation among south countries based on accelerating meeting the millennium goals and promoting the youth participation in the democratic process, al-Barakani added.He noted that the general sittings of the assembly would be dedicated to discussing issues such as the Middle East, human rights, boosting the respect of international human rights laws, coordination between female and male parliamentarians, childhood and motherhood, fighting AIDS and water conservation.On the sidelines of the assembly, Yemen will participate in the consultative meetings of the Arab and Islamic Parliamentary Group to discuss issues concerned by the Arab and Muslim nations.The Yemeni delegation, furthermore, will meet with some delegations to discuss aspects of mutual cooperation between Yemen and their countries.
