The United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi is to host on the coming Monday and Tuesday the meetings of the Yemen's friends group. Well-informed sources told the weekly 26septmebr that representatives of Gulf States and donor organizations and countries are to attend the meetings, which are considered as preparations for a ministerial meeting for Yemen's friends group to be held in Berlin, Germany.
The sources expected that the ministerial meeting would discuss establishing a fund to assist Yemen in combating poverty, unemployment and limited resources.
Earlier this week, UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Khalid al-Ghaith has held talks during his visit to Yemen with senior officials in the government, topped by Prime Minister Ali Mujawar and Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, over the arrangements for upcoming meetings. On the sidelines of the visit, al-Ghaith reviewed with officials in the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the General Investment Authority the promising investment opportunities in the country in electricity, oil, gas, telecommunication, and other sectors. The London meeting held last November has approved forming two sub-committees of Yemen's friends; the first for economic reform issues and chaired by UAE and the second is headed by the Northlands and would focus on justice and good governance.
