About 70 per cent of Yemen's geological areas is still undiscovered, an official has said.The Oil Exploration and Production Authority head Ahmed Abdellah made the announcement during a scientific seminar organized by the Strategic Studies and Research Center that discussed the horizons of exploring and producing Oil in the country.
The main challenges are related to exploring oil and attracting international investments into Yemen that owns large geological areas and sedimentary tubs expected to produce oil and gas in the future, he said.Abdellah stressed the importance of reconsidering the strategies to guarantee activating oil sector, attract investments and find legal and structural regulations to supervise oil search operations as well as overcoming problems of staff enlargement, scarce resources and the duality of concerned authorities.On Thursday, Australia's Oil Search Company said it had discovered large quantities of high level gas at a well it is drilling in southern Yemen. The discovery at Alme'shar 1 well at the bloc 7 in Shabwa province was the second by the company over the last few months.The large quantities, said to be at commercial rates, were found after the drilling of the well reached 3390 meters underground.
