National Security head, Ali al-Anisi, affirmed that counter-terrorism is a national necessity that needs integral efforts of the state and society segments All what has been said about al-Qaeda in Yemen was exaggerated, he said, assuring that Yemen is not a safe haven for al-Qaeda militants and pointing to the latest security pre-emptive operations against militants which thwarted planned attacks on vital domestic and foreign interests in the country. He clarified that 60% of terror operations failed in achieving their targets out of 61 since 1992, pointing to an agreement signed between the government and the U.S., UK and the EU on coordination to face terror. In spite of the ignorance of his father's warnings by U.S. authorities, the would-be bomber of Detroit jet reminds us with the situation after 9/11 when Yemen was a U.S. terror target along with Pakistan and Afghanistan, he said. Then president Saleh made a visit to Washington and Europe and moved Yemen from a target to partner position, confirming that helping Yemen to counter-terrorism needs to find the reasons for terror and avoid looking at it from a narrow window.
