Yemen has affirmed the importance to tackle the different impacts of the economic crisis on the developing countries ,including Yemen. This came in Yemen's speech delivered by Minister of Industry and Trade Yahya al-Mutawakil in the 17th Session of the WTO Ministerial Conference held in Geneva.Al-Mutawakil pointed to the need to abide by the General Council's decisions and Doha Declaration on facilitating the accession of least developed countries and taking into account their circumstances and economic and developmental conditions.He reviewed the stages Yemen completed for the sake of the accession since 2002; confirming that Yemen economy is characterized with openness to the global economy in light of the government policy and the economic, financial and administrative reform program adopted by the government since 1995.Yemen has bilaterally signed with a number of countries and it is about to end the bilateral negotiations and signing market access agreements with other countries during next few months so as to enable it to obtain membership in 2010, al-Mutawakil made it clear.A Yemen delegation led by al-Mutawakil took part in the meeting which was concluded on Wednesday with participation of 153 members and about 30 observer states, including Yemen.The conference addressed the crisis the world has faced over the past few years which put down the achievements that have been achieved in the developing countries making it difficult to reach the Millennium Development Goals.Earlier, al-Mutawakil attended the meeting of least developed countries held on the margins of the WTO ministerial conference.The meeting discussed several topics including ways of boosting cooperation among least developed countries to facilitate their accession into the WTO.In the meeting, al-Mutawakil reviewed the projects carried out in Yemen in the Integrated Framework for Trade, which Yemen is one of the countries to obtain funding for this program.On the other hand, al-Mutawakil attended the Consultation Meeting organized by the Islamic Development Bank.The meeting discussed issues of concern to Muslim countries in the WTO and ways in which the bank can contribute to the trade development of the member states and the help can be provided to countries seeking to join the WTO.
