Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi met here on Monday with Arab countries' ambassadors to Yemen. In the meeting, al-Qirbi reviewed the latest developments related to the government's efforts in dealing with the Houthi insurgency in some areas of Saada province ,clarifying the fact of what is happening in light of the fallacies covered by the media. The Houthis, who are named after their leader's clan, have been fighting the Yemeni government since 2004 in Saada province, which located close to border with Saudi Arabia, after the rebel group was founded by rebel leader Hussein al- Houthi. Hussein, the eldest brother of the current group leader Abdul-Malik, was killed by the army in September 2004.The fighting has escalated dramatically in the past three months and displaced about 175,000 people in Yemen's northern Saada province, according to the United Nations. The Yemeni government accuses the Houthi group of trying to reinstall the rule of imams, which was toppled by a republican revolution in northern Yemen in 1962.
