A delegation from the National Commission for Atomic Energy left Sana'a for Austria to review final draft of atomic energy law.
Head of the delegation, Khalid al-Ahmadi, said that the draft would be the first of its kind in the region as Yemen will be the first country in the region that prepared such a law. The law is a step toward implementing directives of President Ali Abdullah Saleh to use atomic energy to generate electricity and desalinate waters.
Last February, the new Electricity Minister Mustafa Bahran held a meeting with head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Muhammed al-Baradi, to brief him on the desire of Yemen to use atomic energy to generate electricity and desalinate waters.
In this regard, al-Baradi confirmed support of the agency for Yemen in this field.
