PWP implements 489 projects since January

The Steering Committee of Public Works Project (PWP) discussed on Sunday the implementation level in executing the projects since period January 2009 which reached 489 projects at a total cost of $56.7 million. In its meeting chaired by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi, the committee reviewed a progress report on the performance of PWP and projects carried out in different provinces during the same period.The report pointed that the sums spent on the projects during the same period amounted to $48.7 million and provided 41,503 jobs, noting that 110 projects will be announced during the coming period and distributed to a number of provinces.The committee got acquainted with the reports of the Central Organization for Control and Auditing (COCA) and the financial reports on the performance of PWP during the last year.Furthermore, the committee discussed a report on the decentralization and local development support project, implemented in 20 districts spread across six provinces. The PWP was established in 1996, through Presidential Law No. 36 for approving the Development Credit Agreement between our country and the World Bank. The establishment of PWP came as a pressing necessity to mitigate the adverse effects of the Economic, Financial and Administrative Reforms Program as a model for efficient delivery of basic infrastructure services within well defined and transparent procedures.
