Al-Qirbi affirms necessity to support interim Somali government

Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi affirmed on Tuesday that the situations in Somalia require support of the Organization of the Islamic Countries (OIC), the African Union, Arab League and the international community to enable the interim Somali government to impose its sovereignty, set up its security apparatuses, build governmental institutions and fight sea piracy.In his speech during the communication meeting of the team assigned for Somalia, on the sidelines of the annual coordination meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers held in New York, al-Qirbi requested to reconsider the ban law against Somalia on exporting weapons, calling for annulling this law with regards to requirements of the Somali government.He emphasized the importance of providing humanitarian support for Somalia and reducing sufferings of the displaced people and refugees.Worth to mention that the meeting approved proposals on Somalia presented by the Yemeni side.A statement was issued by the meeting renewing support for Djibouti Agreement considering it the only recognized move in Somalia. The meeting also affirmed the importance of fully committing to peace agreement and welcomed all parties to join and take part in it.
