Hadramout University (HU) and AMIDEAST-Yemen organized a two –day workshop in January 30-31, 2006, entitled "Shaping the Way We Teach English". The workshop aimed at providing the participants with the modern methods of teaching English Language. Opening the workshop, prof. Ahmed Bamashomus, the president of HU, emphasized on the importance of such workshop" This kind of academic activities is very necessary for the teachers of English as it brings them direct contact with native speaker of English, widens their scope concerning teaching methods, and helps them to implement the new strategies of teaching into their class room" he said. The second speaker, Dr.Khalid Balakhasher, the head of English Department at HU, welcomed the guests and hailed AMIDEAST workshops" AMIDEAST workshop has become an annual tradition where people from different parts of the world transcend barriers of politics, culture, and geography to meet, communicate and discuss issues and strategies of ELT.I urge my colleagues and all the participants to benefit from the workshop" he said. For two days, Dr.Leslie Opp-Beckman, Senior instructor, University of Oregan, delievered lectures on the new method of teaching English Language. She used video-based teacher training materials shaping the Way We Teach English; Successful Practices round the World .It is made up of 14 modules in a video format with a supporting manual .The modules are structured in such a way that teachers can use them in order or one at a time, depending on your needs and interests. At the end of her lecture, Dr.Leslie thanked the participants and asked them to bring what they have been studying for two days into the class room.
