Detailed studies on the establishment of Saleh Non-Profit Special University have got underway by the Texas University Union.
The move comes after the Yemeni Academic Committee on the project signed a contract with the US union. A government building has been chosen to be rehabilitated to be the university compound. Under the contract, the US union will also work to prepare modern curricula to be taught at the university under the supervision of the Yemeni Academic Committee.The university will open within the next two years, with the government paying costs for the first phase of its work over three years. Initially the university can assimilate 3000 students. Superior high school graduates will be the students at the university, with those who wish to join it should get at least 85 percent grade. Coordinator for the project Najeeb Ahmed al-Gharasi said the aim of the university is to quality perfect technical and professional graduates to meet the needs of the Yemeni labor market. Periodical meetings by the committee must be held to follow up progress on implementing the project, he concluded.
