The lucrative nature of piracy was made all the more evident when seven suspected pirates appeared in a Malindi court yesterday: The youngest one was only 14 years old.Senior principal magistrate Mrs Beatrice Thuranira Jaden ordered that master Abdi Adan Abdulkadir be remanded in the Malindi juvenile home when he and six others were charged in a Malindi court for abducting a ship.The seven appeared before senior principal magistrate Mrs Beatrice Thuranira Jaden who said the case for master Abdi Adan Abdulkadir was obvious and did not require age assessment from a doctor. “His case is obvious. He is obviously a minor,” she said. The prosecution led by senior State Council Mr A. M. Muteti said according to information given to security agents, master Abdulkadir was only 14 years old.“The minor is ordered to be remanded at the Malindi children’s remand home while the rest are taken to prison remand,” she said.The seven were charged with abducting MV Antonis in the Indian Ocean high seas off the Somali Coast on May 23 this year.
