The trial of Fadi Ahmed Hassan Baom began on Monday in Yemen, with prosecutors accusing him of grave crimes against the nation including threatening national unity and inciting secessionism. During the inaugural hearing, prosecutors charged Baom with violating the constitution, saying in a charge sheet he encouraged civilians to fight the authorities. Baom was also spreading misinformation and hatred, aiming to destabilize national security and ignite regionism, prosecutors added. The hearing was adjourned until 22 June when prosecution should present further evidence against Baom. Last week, a former envoy appeared in a Yemeni court on charges related to harming the country's unity and inciting the public to fight the troops. Qasim Jobran, Yemen's ex-envoy to Mauritania, however, denied all charges.
