Yemen, WB discuss absorbing $ 90 mln grant for poorest groups

Yemen and the World Bank (WB) discussed here on Tuesday a mechanism to absorb a grant of $ 90 million from the Bank to the poorest groups in Yemen through the Social Welfare Fund (SWF).
During their meeting, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Samira Obaid and the WB's expert in the Middle East and North Africa Lear Arsado also discussed the distribution of those cash aid and increasing the social security amounts by 50 percent.
The meeting touched on the procedural steps taken by the Fund to implement the new survey of poor cases, which is scheduled to target both old and new cases amounting 250 thousand cases.
For his part, Executive Director of the SWF Mansour al-Fayyadhi pointed out that the Fund absorbed more than 40 percent of the WB grant during the last quarter of 2014 through the disbursement of the social security amounts with 50 percent increase for each case.
The company that will implement the new survey of poverty in Yemen will be identified later this month, al-Fayyadhi said.
