Assistant Secretary General at the General People’s Congress GPC for Political and External Relations Affairs Sultan al-Barakani met Saturday the ambassador of Cuba Republic to Yemen Buenaventura Reyes Acosta and discussed with him areas of cooperation between the two countries and between the GPC and the Communist Party, the ruling party in Cuba. In the meeting al-Barakani confirmed depth of the Yemeni Cuban relations saying they are historical extending to the sixties of the last century. He has also confirmed that the stand of the Yemenis with Cuba ha not changed and the Yemenis feel regretted regarding the state of blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States of America. Al-Barakani also expressed then Yemenis thanking of what Cuba offers of support for Yemen, especially in the medicinal area. He said,” For us in Yemen we find their experts in the hospitals feeling pains of the Yemeni citizens and those who meet the patients every day are the best ambassadors of Cuba to Yemen. “Al-Barakani also pointed out that the GPC wants developing the relations with Cuba regarding renewal of the cooperation protocol signed by the two parties provided that it includes broader fields. For his part the Cuban ambassador to Yemen praised the level of the development in relations between his country and Yemen, emphasizing that they are expanding in many areas. He also talked about the Cuban- Yemeni relations in medical and sport areas and presented an explanation on tasks of the Yemeni Cuban joint committee, indicating it would soon hold its meeting in the Cuban capital Havana. The meeting would discuss expansion of cooperation fields and signing a number of agreements. He said friendship relations of the two countries are witnessing continuous development and that he would work for enhancement and activation of those relations. On the other hand, al-Barakani met Saturday the advisor of the Sudanese deputy ambassador to Yemen Rashid Farrar al-Tayyib al-Sera and discussed with him aspects of relations between the two countries and the GPC and the Sudanese national Congress ruling party. Al-Sera praised Yemen stands concerning different Sudanese issues, evaluating stands of the Yemeni political leadership and the leadership of the GPC and the Yemeni people towards the issues of Sudan, al-Siraj also valued stands of President Ali Abdullah Saleh regarding what concerns the targeting of President al-Bashir by the International Criminal Court ICC. He said President Saleh was the first Arab head of state to contact his Sudanese counterpart when the issue of al-Bashir was referred to the ICC and declared his support for and standing by al-Bashir and the Sudan. The Sudanese diplomat also presented detailed explanation on stand of the Sudanese government regarding the issuance of the ICC’s arrest warrant decision of al-Bashir. He said this court is political and selective and not a reference and that sending the issue by the UN Security Council has a violation of the UN Charter. He also reviewed his government stand and the measures it would take. For his part al-Barakani reiterated Yemen and the GPC condemnation of the arrest warrant against President al-Bashir, confirming Yemen stand towards Sudan in different stages and the issues would not change and that is what was expressed always by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, saying “We condemn this warrant and we consider it a flagrant interference in states affairs.”Al-Barakani also pointed out that the GPOC would not hesitate in taking supportive stands for the Sudanese people,” confirming the GPC keenness on enhancing and devolving the two countries in different areas
