Yemen joins European Energy Charter as an observer

Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Electricity ,Abdullah al-Akwa, on Monday signed in Belgian capital Brussels on Yemen's accession as an observer to the European Energy Charter.
Al-Akwa affirmed that Yemen is keen to facilitate the regional cooperation in the energy-related aspects and so as to enable it to enhance the various sources of energy in Yemen and develop the agreements and protocols with the Member States in various fields.
Following the signing, al-Akwa met with Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat Urban Rusnák.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to develop the cooperation in the electricity and energy field and taking advantage of the European and international expertise to improve energy efficiency and its uses. At the meeting, al-Akwa pointed to the importance of cooperation between Yemen and the General Secretariat of the European Energy Charter, especially in the light of the challenges faced by the country in the electricity and energy sector, appreciating the European support to Yemen in various development areas.
He stressed the importance of continued support to Yemen in various aspects, especially in the field of electricity and energy to meet its needs and the deficit in electricity generation.
For his part, Rusnák welcomed Yemen's decision to join the Energy Charter Declaration, which was adopted for the first time in The Hague in 1991, pointing to the importance of that in promoting the economic and developmental stability and meeting Yemen's needs of energy.
He confirmed the readiness of the General Secretariat of the Charter to cooperate with Yemen in the areas of energy to help Yemen to improve the efficiency of energy use and other various aspects.
