An official economic study has shown that the general budget of the state encountered various difficulties and challenges due to the high increase of oil derivatives, exceeding the government spending for health and education sectors. The study indicated that the overall bill for oil derivatives support reached $ 24 billion during 2000 – 2013.
It revealed that around 35% of the government oil derivatives support is benefitted by 20% of the Yemeni families with high income levels while 10% only of the low-income families made use of this support.
The study affirmed that most of the government support for oil derivatives goes for un-poor families which imposes lifting this support and changing into oriented support policy for the poor and worthy categories.
