The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that the German government would contribute in supporting the WFP's activities to provide food and monetary assistance to the poorest families in Yemen with €10 million (= US$ 13.8 million). The WFP Yemen Representative and Country Director Bishow Parajuli said that this donation is provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via the German Development Bank (KfW) according to an agreement was signed Wednesday at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Sana'a.
Parajuli pointed out that the German contribution would enable the WFP to reach all vulnerable groups targeted by the project within the emergency safety net project, and would support the monthly food and monetary distributions for the most food-insecure families in Yemen to accomplish the number of 2.8 million people by the end of June 2014.
It is worth to mention that Germany is the second largest donor to the WFP in Yemen, and its assistance contributed last year the program to access the number of about 5 million people.
