WB provides US$50 mln to Yemen public works

The World Bank provided on Tuesday a grant of US$50 million to Yemen to finance a public works project.
The project aims to provide urgent jobs to the public works sector in order to enhance the social recovery and economic growth by supporting infrastructure projects, addressing the challenges of unemployment and improving basic public services in Yemen.
Meanwhile, a Yemeni delegation and WB officials began on Tuesday in Washington negotiations on the financing of the US$50 million-Fourth Phase of the Social Fund for Development (SFD IV) Project for Yemen.
The project aims to improve access to basic services, enhance economic opportunities and reduce the vulnerability of the poor.
In addition, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Mohammad al-Saadi and Finance Minister Sakhar al-Wajeeh met on Tuesday at the headquarters of the US State Department in Washington, with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gerald Feierstein.
During the meeting, they talked over the support of development partners in Yemen to the efforts of the government to promote the development and stability in the country as well as ways to support Yemen’s budget for 2014.
Feierstein told the Yemeni officials that he will lead his country's delegation to the upcoming meeting of the Friends of Yemen to be held in the capital of the United Kingdom London on 29 April.
