The Yemeni General Federation of Women -Hadramout province Branch- organized in coordination with UNICEF a workshop for the presentation of the analytical study and the National Action Plan for female genital mutilation under the title (together to get rid of female genital mutilation) with the participation of relevant offices of the Ministries of Endowments and Guidance, public health, population and civil society organizations and religious scholars. This two-day workshop which is held in Mukalla will discuss issues relating to female genital mutilation and the views of Muslim scholars in the Ministry of Endowments and Guidance on this issue and the efforts made by our country in the abandonment of female genital mutilation as well as the review of the national plan to give up this phenomenon and to develop plans at the provincial level in the light of the national plan. At the opening session of the workshop,Hadhramaut governor Mr Salim Al-Khanbashi stressed that there should be a wide variety of discussions in this workshop from all parties concerned, especially scholars and the Office of the Ministry of Endowments and Guidance to give a full analysis of the extent of benefit or harm to the health of women as a result of this through research and studies of Islamic law and social heritage which will be presented at the workshop so as to contribute to this workshop to remove the erroneous understanding of women and the question of circumcision. At the meantime Mr governor Stressed the need to raise the cultural and health awareness among the citizens, especially those in remote areas about the issue and correct concepts and work with all the decisions and directives issued by the Government and the Ministry of Health and Population. At the beginning of the workshop,many words were delivered by the deputy Chief of the General Federation of Women - Hadramout province branch- Anisa Mo'amen, the representative of the Ministry of Public Health and Population Dr. / Nada Alshrajabi which Referred to the many analytical studies and theories that will be addressed in the workshop and the role played by the Ministry of Public Health and Population in the issuance of decisions on the prevention of genital mutilation of girls and what comes out of this Committee of the formation of the central committees of non-governmental organizations to contribute to the activation of these decisions. The word of the branch Union addressed the projects implemented in the province and funded by Oxfam including the protection project, legal and safe age for marriage and gender-based violence, financed by the United Nations Population Fund. Attended the opening meeting, MR / Abdullah Omar Bawazir - the Chairman of the services Commission in the local council, and representatives of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the Ministry of Endowments and the National Commission for Women and the head of the civil society organizations in the the union Dr. / Husniyya Kadiri.
