Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar, arrived in Sana'a on Saturday.
“This is my 28th visit to Yemen, which comes after the UN Security Council's recent resolution in support of the political process in Yemen”, Benomar said in a statement to Saba.
"During the visit, I will focus on supporting the Yemeni efforts to implement the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) in firm cooperation and coordination with President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and all political parties", he added.
He explained that during the visit he would prepare his report to the Security Council ,which will meet by end of March to assess the findings of the political process and the extent of implementation for the Council’s recent resolution No. 2140.
He added: "The Security Council was forced to issue the recent resolution because the systematic obstruction continued and the spoilers bear this responsibility”.
Benomar indicated that the issuance of this resolution under the Chapter VII was necessary for the implementation of this resolution and the seventh item is applied on obtrusive individuals and groups and not Yemen as a whole and there is no text or any intention or any act in the direction of imposing sanctions on Yemen as a member country in the UN.
He said there is an international consensus that the political process must succeed, especially after the success of the national dialogue, and the international community would not allow impeding the political process.
