Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Farid Mujawar met here on Monday with Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Robert Wilson. During the meeting, they discussed aspects of cooperation between the Ministry and the Agency and supporting the priorities needed in the agricultural sector.
At the meeting, Mujawar confirmed the importance of providing the necessary support to meet the needs and requirements of the agricultural sector in Yemen, noting that the agricultural sector in its both plant and animal sides is one of the most important and vital economic sectors in the country.
"We are trying to convince the government to give priority in support to the agricultural sector to promote its role in providing food security and to take advantage of this sector as a means of combating poverty in rural and urban areas", Mujawar said.
He hoped a rapid response by donors to provide the support in a fast manner in order to assist the ministry's efforts in the implementation of the activities of priority.
For his part, Wilson showed his readiness to cooperate and to urge donors to take fast action to provide the necessary support to meet requirements and needs of the agricultural development in Yemen.
He asserted that the USAID will support the activities of the ministry in several fields, especially in the field of livestock that contribute to improving the level of income of rural families.
