Before it came to be known as the month of Fasting, the companions of the Prophet knew Ramadan as a month of the Quran, the last and ever lasting divine guidance to humanity.
"The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for
mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the Criterion (between
right and wrong). So, whoever of you sights the month, he/she must
observe fasts that month and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same
number (of days which one did not observe fasts must be made up) from
other days. Allah intends for you ease, and he does not want to make
things difficult for you. He wants that you must complete the same
number of days and that you must glorify Allah for having guided you so
that you may be grateful to Him." (2:184). The revelation began in the month of Ramadan. The night in which the
Quran began to be revealed is referred in the Quran as the blessed
night: We sent it (the Quran) down on a blessed night, (44:2) or the
night of Decree, Verily, we have sent it (this Quran) down in the Night
of Al-Qadr. (97:1). It was the strength, clarity, simplicity, and
universality of the message that the night was described as an
extraordinary night. Set a time before or
after suhoor to be alone with Allah (swt). Use this time to connect to
Him by praying, making du`a', or reading Qur'an.
