UN hails Yemen's successful headship of G-77 and China

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has hailed Yemen's successful headship of the Group of 77 (G-77) and China In the ceremony held at the UN headquarters in New York for Yemen's handover the presidency of the G-77 and China to Argentina, Ban Ki-moon noted that the last year witnessed a continuation of many economic, social and environmental problems and the Group has supported the UN in its efforts to find successful solutions.He expressed his thanks to the Group for that support.At the ceremony, Yemen's Permanent Representative to the UN the ambassador Abdullah al-Saidi reviewed the most importance achievements realized under the presidency of Yemen for the Group, stressing the importance of the Group's unity.He expressed thanks to all States for the confidence and support they have provided to Yemen during its presidency for the Group.For his part, Argentina's ambassador expressed his country's recognition of distinct leadership and performance of Yemen during the presidency of the G-77 and China.A number of the UN's officials and countries' representatives spoke during the ceremony and all praised the distinct role of Yemen during its presidency of the Group as well as the diplomatic skills of members of Yemen's permanent delegation, which have had a greatest impact on maintaining the unity of the Group and achieving great successes at various levels. On January 23, 2010, Yemen received the presidency of the G-77 and China from the previous president of the group for 2009, Sudan.
