Yemen, Kuwait discuss agricultural cooperation

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi discussed on Monday with Head of Kuwait Farmers Federations Masoud al-Arada aspects of agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
They dealt with ways to support and develop the collaborative agricultural work to serve the development paths between the two countries.At the meeting, al-Hawshabi explained that Yemen has a surplus of agricultural products, which are available at competitive prices, noting that the cultivation of most fruits and vegetables is free of plant herbicides and is in conformity with the specifications and standards.For his part, the Kuwaiti official confirmed that his visit to Yemen comes within the existing strong relations between the two countries. During the visit an agreement would be signed to serve the agricultural development and the cooperative work in both countries, he pointed out.He stressed the importance of activating the cooperatives' role in the two countries, developing the Arab federations' activities, and integrating the cooperative work with the public and private sectors to achieve the agricultural development.Furthermore, he reviewed the Kuwaiti Farmers Federation's experience in the area of storage and marketing of agricultural commodities, pointing to his country's keenness to avail from Yemen's experience in the field of veterinary and honey bees.It is noteworthy that the volume of trade exchange between Yemen and Kuwait amounted last year to YR 104.2 billion, while the total balance of trade between them reached YR 67.2 billion in favor of Kuwait, as the value of Yemen's imports from Kuwait amounted to YR 84.2 billion compared to YR 20 billion for exports.On another hand, al-Hawshabi discussed with Indonesian ambassador to Yemen Nour al-Awliya bilateral cooperation aspects between the two countries, especially in the field of agriculture and irrigation.In the meeting, they touched upon the possibility of availing from the two countries' experiences in this field and facilitating the flow of agricultural commodities between the two countries to serve the economic activity between them.
