Yemen and Syria have signed a cooperation deal that enables the two Arab states of implementing a joint cooperation program on goods specifications over 2010-2011. Under the deal signed in Syria's capital of Damascus, the two countries will boost scientific and technical cooperation on goods specification, testing, conformity certification, information approval, the Codex Alimentarius Commission, media and awareness, experts and training exchange and international cooperation. Chairman of the Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO) Ahmed al-Bashah told the September 26 website that Yemen and Syria during the signing exchanged their standardization projects for each others' review before the projects are approved and unified for mutually-traded goods.Under the deal, Syria will also contact Yemen over annual courses it holds for Yemen to be able of attending the courses; and Syria will also send experts in important fields for holding training at the Yemeni concerned authorities. The two countries also hold joint workshops and seminars inviting each other for the events according to their needs and there should be a mutual approval of conformity certification for their exports.He also said that the deal allows each state to log in the data of the other country and download standardizations she likes and that the two can exchange documents and special procedures over the International Conformity Certification Program (ICCP).They also can swap special measures over the control of measurement tools to learn from each others' skills with the aim to develop metrology services in them and implement mutual related researches.Yemen and Syria have also agreed to exchange information about resources and abilities and test and examination authorities in each with the aim to coordinate and develop labs and facilitate mutual acknowledgment of the examination results.The concerned authorities in both states will also coordinate and cooperate at international circles to strengthen their positions.The two countries also agreed that they would hold the next meeting on standardization in Sana'a, capital of Yemen, to evaluate the progress on the implementation of the deal.
