The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization
(ALESCO) has deplored missing up with cultural legacy in Yemen by
Iran-allied Houthi militia that has deliberately sought to destruct the
Yemeni museums' collections, concealing and smuggling the rare
historical manuscripts in the public libraries in Sana'a, Shibam,
Sa'ada, Dhamar, Zabid, Jeblah and al-Ganad.
The ALESCO issued a statement in which it said " Houthi militia's acts of robbing, damaging and smuggling targeted Yemen's precious treasures including rare historical manuscripts and documents of endowments' assets" in the Great Mosque of Sana'a. It is reported that significant amount of ancient, rare and precious of manuscripts and documents of endowments' property dated back to the 6th and 7th centuries of Hegira have been disappeared".
The ALESCO added" To erase the effects of these illegal actions and ease smuggling and illicit trafficking of the items of Yemen's cultural heritage, these sectarian radical gangs have taken control over the database of the Yemeni House of Manuscripts and damaged it".
