President Ali Abdullah Saleh presented on Monday in the Arab summit
(solidarity summit with the Palestinians in Gaza Strip), which is
currently held in Kuwait, a project prepared by Yemen to establish an
Arab states union. In his speech delivered in the evening
session of the summit, Saleh said "Yemen presented this project out of
faith in the changes and challenges facing the Arab nation which force
all to work in order to change system of the Arab work in the light of
international and regional developments." He pointed out that
establishing this union will ensure achieving political, economic,
social, development, cultural, security and defense integration and
will serve interests of the Arab nation. "We have enough of
economic, human and military capacities which enable us to defend our
faith, countries and Arab and Islamic entity and also protect our
rights and dignity," he added. The president emphasized the
importance of the summit to come out with a decision which translates
hopes and ambitions of the Arab nation and reinforces Arab unity and
solidarity, affirming at the same time that the current situations
force all to reject disagreements. He said "we hope that this
summit to be a historical one marked with its decisions with respect to
its agenda's political and economic issues, particularly that it is
held under highly important and complicated situations due to the
barbaric aggression of the Israeli forces against the Palestinian
brethren in Gaza Strip. "The Zionist entity has managed to set
the Arab solidarity apart and tear the Palestinian unity supported by
some forces," he said, adding that "our national responsibility push us
to work through all means to rescue the Arab situation and to take
action to force the Zionist entity to stop its offensive and comply
with the will of truth, justice and international legitimacy." Saleh expressed hope the Arab Kuwait summit comes out with the following resolutions: - Opening all crossings, - Ending blockade imposed on Gaza, - Forcing the Zionist entity to compensate the Palestinian of the losses due to the holocaust it committed, - Trying Zionist leaders on the inhumane war on Gaza, - Asking the international community to impose economic and military embargo on Israel, and - Working to make use of the relations of Arab countries, specially those with permanent membership in the Security Council. He
emphasized the importance of finding out a unified and decisive Arab
stance to encounter stubbornness of the Zionist entity in case it did
not react according to these demands. "Arrogance of the
Zionist entity in not applying peace options and committing to
resolution of the international legitimacy entitle us to activate the
agreement of Arab joint defense as a last choice regarding the Israeli
stubbornness to protect dignity and future of the Arab nation," he
added. The president called Fatah and Hamas movements, and
other Palestinian factions, to commit to the signed agreements between
them to ensure unity of the Palestinian stance and reinforce the
Palestinian national unity as well as forming a government of all the
Palestinian forces to work on preparing timely presidential and
parliamentary elections and also re-structuring security system on the
basis of professionalism.
