Minister of Public Health Population Abdul-Karim Rase'a returned to Sana'a on Friday after his participation in a workshop on malnutrition and food security in Yemen, which was held in the British capital, London, on February 22.
Rase'a told Saba that the workshop came up with recommendations and decisions, with the consent of donors to support the national strategy of food prepared by Ministry of Public Health and Population and the food security strategy prepared by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
The recommendations affirmed the importance of concerted efforts under the leadership of the Planning Ministry in coordination with all other ministries and international organizations and donors.
The European Union, Britain and Netherlands have announced their support for financing those strategies and completing decisions through UNICEF in a date no later than mid-March, 2011, Rase'a pointed out.He said that the Yemeni delegation participating in the workshop confirmed the commitment of the Yemeni government to provide the financial support for the implementation of the food strategy gradually as it was with the Global Alliance for Vaccines.In addition, the delegation thanked the British Strategic Institute, UNICEF and WFP as well as all partners for their efforts in supporting the fight against malnutrition in Yemen and other educational health programs.
