Economic Council affirms local councils' role in development of resources

The Supreme Economic Council held on Monday a meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ali Mujawar.
The Council discussed executive proposals for decisions of the National Defense Council and the joint meeting of the Cabinet and the General People's Congress, chaired by President Ali Abdullah Saleh on February 11-12, on the rationalization of expenditure and the development of local and central resources according to the laws and regulations regulating this process.The council stressed the strict adherence to the expenditure rationalization procedures, and directed Finance Ministry and its different institutions to coordinate with the concerned agencies to reformulate these proposals. In this regard, the council emphasized the importance of making a comprehensive evaluation for the status of embassies, consulates and their staff so as to accord with the expenditure rationalization policies, as well as the strict application of the principle of reward and punishment in all economic units. In addition, the council affirmed the vital role should be played by the local councils in the development of the local resources according to the laws and regulations. The council directed the concerned agencies to look for practical and transparent alternatives with regard to the development of the resources of the alms (Zakat), including the possibility of creating a full autonomous institution for the alms enjoying a transparent accounting system.Furthermore, the council approved a memorandum of Minister of Oil and Minerals on the extension for the company operating in the Block (R2) for one year only, in accordance with the conditions agreed with the company.
