The French Foreign Minister praises President’s call for political reforms

The French Deputy Premier, the Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie has praised Tuesday he political reforms to which the President Ali Abdullah Saleh called in latest his speech in the parliament.
That came during her meeting in Paris on Tuesday with the Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr Abu Bakr al-Qirbi as part of his European tour.The meeting discussed relations of cooperation between Yemen and France and horizons of enhancing them as well as the issues of common interest, mainly the events taking place in the Arab region.The two ministers also discussed the underway preparations for the next meeting of Yemen Friends Group expected to be held in Riyadh next March. The talks also touched on the negative impact of maritime piracy in the Arabian Sea and danger of boycott of some countries of air freight coming from Yemen and the damage it inflicts on the Yemeni economy. Dr al-Qirbi praised the vital role which France plays within the Yemen Friends Group and its firm support for unity, stability and prosperity of Yemen, pointing out France’s expression of continuous keenness on enhancement of economic partnership withYemen through developing the French investments in the sectors of oil and gas and other promising sectors in Yemen.The Yemeni Foreign Minister called the French side to lift the boycott of air cargo coming from Yemen as soon as possible.The French Foreign Minister reiterated for her side the stand of her country that supports unity, stability and security of Yemen, affirming France’s support and backing up the process of the political, economic and social reforms in Yemen.The French minister also praised the existing partnership and cooperation between Yemen and France.Meanwhile the Yemeni Foreign Minister discussed with the chairman of External Affairs Committee at the French parliament and a number of French Members of Parliament the recent developments in the local arena. The minister reviewed in the meting the steps of the political and economic reform being implemented by the Yemeni government and the many initiatives for realizing the partnership and the launch of the broad-powered local rule , affirming the necessity of offering more development support to Yemen.He meeting also touched on issues of common interest particularly the Palestinian issue, the situations in Somalia and the efforts for combating maritime piracy in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden.
